Did You Know?

Graffiti Art Camp at Josephine Sculpture Park

We took every chance we could get this summer to hang out with our kids and get them involved in the community. Through camps, extracurricular activities and family events, we were able to get to know them and their needs more while having fun along the way!

Here are some things we’ve been working on:

  • Started a monthly support group for parents/caregivers, led by Melinda Simpson, LCSW. Second Thursdays meets at the Bluegrass Care Navigators office. WJRF volunteers provide childcare and dinner for families.
  • Hosted a Father’s Day visit at the Franklin County Regional Jail for 7 families. Dale spoke with prisoners. Volunteers led children/family activities. As a result three inmates enrolled in GED classes.
  • Funded a KRUSH training for 24 Frankfort Independent and Franklin County school staff. KRUSH is a K-12th grade curriculum for students impacted by incarceration. Pilot KRUSH groups will begin in schools this fall.
  • Hired our first full-time staff through Northern Kentucky University’s Campus Compact, Americorps VISTA program. Meagan Morrow has 8 years of child protective services work in Anderson County and 2 years as a substance abuse counselor. Her primary role is to engage volunteers in ongoing foundation activities. Meagan will also build the infrastructure of our mentoring program. Her office is located in The Kings Center.
Family Fellowship event at the Juniper Hills Aquatic Center
  • In June, a Family Fellowship event was held at Juniper Hills Aquatic Center. Children birthdays were celebrated.
  • Sponsored 16 children to participate in a cupcake/treat decorating classes at B’s Bakery.
  • Sponsored two children to attend a week-long graffiti art camp (and four children to attend a one-day camp) at Josephine Sculpture Park.
  • Eight children attended the Western Hills High School summer basketball camp.
  • Two Kentucky State University students committed their 2019/2020 academic year to have leadership roles with our children and families.
  • Started weekly video visitation with our partnership with GTL.
We sponsored 16 children to participate in a cupcake/treat decorating classes at B’s Bakery in Frankfort.

Like what we’re doing in the Frankfort community? We’d love your support. If you’re wondering how you can help the Wanda Joyce Robinson Foundation, here’s a few ideas to get you started:

  • Meet with Meagan to discuss opportunities to volunteer! Email [email protected] for more information.
  • Consider being a one-on-one mentor for our children/youth. Mandatory training for mentors is scheduled for October 17, at Amachi in Lexington.
  • Provide a sponsorship for a child/youth to participate in an extracurricular activity.
  • Donate
