Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in justice involved children, youth, and families
  • Specific skills and experience related to childcare and/or mentoring youth
  • Preferred knowledge and experience working with children with special needs including mental health, behavioral, and trauma.

    No direct child or youth contact in a small setting.

  • Deliver food boxes
  • Give parents/caregivers a ride to a basic need (grocery shopping, doctor appointment, to a WJRF event)
  • Help with a WJRF Family Fellowship event (ie: family game night, holiday party, summer pool party)
  • Assist with a WJRF Fundraising event
  • two

    Single events or short term engagement with children or youth

  • Provide transportation for a youth to a WJRF event or extra curricular activity (if commitement is more than 30 days, training required).
  • Assist with high school group meetings (lifeskills, cooking, mock interviews, etc)
  • One time job shadowing experience with a high school youth
  • three

    Direct supervision of children and youth (two
    hour training required)

  • Assist with childcare during a WJRF program, (parent cafe, caregiver support group, Alanon/Narcotics Anonymous meeting, etc)
  • Short term job shadowing 2-4 weeks; or semester long internship with high school youth
  • Become a Mentor
  • Volunteer Requirements

  • Completion of Volunteer Application

  • Background Check ($10 to pay for Child Abuse and Neglect Check)
  • Fingerprinting
  • Signed Forms: Confidentiality, Volunteer Agreement, Transportation Waiver
    (if driving children) and any other policies necessary for the role.

    Spend time with kids while their adult attends a program at Thorn Hill Education Center. Weekly need for Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

    Mentors needed! Make an impact in our community. We have a huge need for mentors. Being a mentor requires a one year commitment of spending at least one hour per week with your mentee.
