Molly, Molly, Molly

Molly started as a Marketing Intern with Wanda J in August 2024. Frankfort High School’s Senior Internship Program is encouraged for all senior students and requires weekly check-ins with timesheets, communication with their internship coordinator, site visits during working hours and an end of year presentation to a panel. The year has flown by and here we are celebrating a wonderful year with our intern Molly.

Molly reported to Rebecca (Director of Marketing) during her time with us and together they planned and prepared events and fundraisers, supported family needs and managed communications and digital marketing, social media, website development and much more. As we’ve mentioned before, working at a nonprofit means wearing lots of hats and being ready for a schedule change at any time. Molly embraced a role that was often pulled into different directions, though with the same goal in mind- to support Frankfort families and kids. Rebecca collaborates with Just Say Yes and the Franklin County ASAP on a weekly basis (among other Frankfort organizations). While being professional and prepared, Molly was always ready for a curve ball. They created new events with Just Say Yes, did flood relief with the community, brainstormed new fundraising ideas, made videos, connected with new families and so much more.

“We often talked about what her friends were doing at their placements and how different her internship was- when I say everyday of this entire year has been different for her, I mean it! Sometimes my job can be very random, but it’s always rewarding and interesting. Molly got to be part of a variety of things this year and became integrated into our community. I got many compliments about her throughout the year from everyone we worked around. She also taught me several new tricks on my computer and in life. I haven’t figured out what I’m going to do without her, but I am excited for her new journey.” – Rebecca

In Molly’s Words…

Q: What were you looking for when you started seeking out an internship?

A: I was looking for a place where I can make a difference in the lives of others, somewhere to have fun and have a variety of tasks and responsibilities to learn as much as possible during my internship.

Q: What was your favorite project or event that we worked on?

A: Find Your Yes Day was my favorite! I liked planning and preparing for the event and seeing all the behind the scenes details that went into making it happen..and then watching it come to life and getting to spend time with the kids. I was on the planning committee (with Just Say Yes, school staff and community members) for a few months before the event. On event day, I led a group of students and got to have fun showing them what the yes card is all about!

Q: What’s something you learned during your time at Wanda J?

A: I’ve learned about the importance of nonprofit organizations and about all the work that goes on behind the scenes that no one knows about. I also strengthened my visual design skills to create fliers, social posts and more and I know I will be able to utilize that later on.

Q: We know you want to go into nursing. Did you gain anything from this experience that will help you in that area?

A: I learned how to care for others and think bigger than myself. A big thing I’ve learned is how to see kids for more than just what’s on the surface and to know they may be going through a lot. I am considering a future in nursing with kids and I think what I’ve experienced here will follow me and help me be a better nurse.

Our entire staff has benefited from Molly’s internship. “Molly is a joy! Her aptitude, speed, work ethic, creativity, and good humor have given us both support and delight. It’s fun to be around her. We love partnering with her to do meaningful work. Thank you, dear Molly!” –Trina, Amachi Match Specialist

We aren’t saying goodbye to Molly– it’s not that easy to get rid of us! We are celebrating her as her internship responsibilities are completed and she’s getting ready to graduate and head off to Western Kentucky University to study nursing. We know she will stay in touch and come around when she can. We are grateful for the energy and passion she has given to our organization in the last year and we can’t wait to see what she does in the future!

Congrats, Molly!
